Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how Dani Lao’s pineappslab (“we”, “us”) handles information in the iOS apps we publish on the App Store. It applies to all of our apps; where something applies only to a specific app, we say so.
Two things are true of every app we publish:
- We do not have user accounts. You never create an account, sign in, or give us a name, an email address or a password to use our apps.
- We do not run servers of our own. We have no database of users. The information described below is processed by Apple and by Google (Firebase and AdMob) under their own privacy policies, and we only ever see it aggregated in their consoles.
WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?
Information you give us
None, unless you choose to write to us. If you contact us by email for support, we receive whatever you put in that email, and we keep it only as long as needed to answer you.
We do not offer accounts or social logins, so we never receive names, passwords, contact lists or profile information.
Information collected automatically
When you use our apps, the following is collected automatically by the tools we use:
- Usage events. Which screens are opened and which actions are taken — for example, in Battery Care Alarm: that an alarm was armed or disarmed, that the target level was reached, that the subscription screen was shown, or that a purchase was started, completed, cancelled or failed. In Painter Values Check: that a photo was captured with the camera or imported from the photo library, that one of the calculated versions of an image was exported, and that the subscription screen was shown. These events include basic technical context such as the device model, the app version and the operating system version. They do not include your name, your email address or your contacts.
- Crash reports. If an app crashes, a report is generated with the state of the app at that moment (stack trace, device model, OS version) so we can fix the problem.
- Advertising identifiers. In apps that show ads, an advertising identifier may be used to select and measure ads. See Do our apps show ads? below — this only happens with your explicit permission.
Information that stays on your device
Most of what our apps handle never leaves your device.
In Battery Care Alarm, this includes your target battery level and settings, the battery readings used to estimate how long is left (discarded when the alarm is disarmed), whether the alarm is armed, and any alarm sound you import. Imported audio files are copied into the app’s own folder on your device and are never uploaded anywhere.
In Painter Values Check, this includes every image the app works with. Camera frames, photos you import, the grayscale and reduced-value versions the app calculates, and the colour palettes it extracts are all processed on your device and are never uploaded anywhere. The live camera preview is analysed frame by frame on the device and no frame is stored or transmitted. A result leaves the app only if you choose to share or save it yourself, through the standard iOS share sheet, and then it goes wherever you send it.
Two details worth stating plainly:
- In Battery Care Alarm, when you import a sound, the anonymous usage event that records “a sound was imported” includes the file name of the file you chose. The audio itself is never transmitted.
- In Painter Values Check, the anonymous usage event that records an export includes only which of the four calculated versions was exported. The picture itself is never transmitted.
HOW DO WE USE YOUR INFORMATION?
- To understand how our apps are used, so we can decide what to improve.
- To detect and fix crashes and errors.
- To show ads in the free versions of our apps, and to measure whether those ads work.
- To operate optional subscriptions, where an app offers them.
- To answer you if you contact us.
We do not use this information to build advertising profiles ourselves, and we do not use it to make automated decisions that produce legal effects for you.
WHAT IS OUR LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING? (EEA/UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on:
- Consent — for advertising and tracking. You give it (or refuse it) in the App Tracking Transparency prompt and in the consent form shown by Google’s User Messaging Platform. You can change your mind at any time; see What are your privacy rights?
- Legitimate interests — for anonymous usage analytics and crash reports, so that our apps work and can be improved. This is a limited interest: the data is aggregated and is not used to identify you.
- Performance of a contract — to provide the paid features of a subscription you have purchased.
DO OUR APPS SHOW ADS?
The free versions of our apps show ads through Google AdMob.
- Before any tracking happens, iOS shows you the App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, the advertising identifier (IDFA) is not used to track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
- Where required (for example, in the EEA and the UK), we also show Google’s User Messaging Platform consent form, where you can accept or manage what advertising partners may do with your data. If you do not consent, you may see non-personalized ads instead.
- Our apps include SKAdNetwork, Apple’s privacy-preserving attribution system, which lets advertisers measure campaigns without identifying you.
If you hold an active ad-removing subscription, the app does not request ads at all. In that case no advertising identifier is shared with Google, and the app does not show you the tracking prompt or the advertising consent form, because there is nothing to consent to.
Sharing an advertising identifier with Google for personalized advertising may be considered “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under some laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended. We do not receive money for your data, and we do not sell it. You can stop that sharing at any time by turning off tracking for the app in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, or by withdrawing consent in the app’s privacy options.
WILL YOUR INFORMATION BE SHARED WITH ANYONE? AND WITH WHOM?
We do not sell your information and we do not share it with anyone other than the service providers that make our apps work:

Not every app uses every service. Painter Values Check uses Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, AdMob and Apple’s payment processing; it does not use Firebase Remote Config.
Each of them processes that information under its own privacy policy: Google and Apple.
We may also disclose information if we are legally required to do so.
DO OUR APPS OFFER SUBSCRIPTIONS?
Some of our apps offer optional auto-renewable subscriptions. This currently applies to Battery Care Alarm and Painter Values Check. In Painter Values Check the subscription is yearly and its only effect is to remove every ad from the app for a year.
Payments are processed by Apple through your Apple Account. We never receive, see or store your payment details. The app only asks the App Store whether an active subscription exists, in order to unlock the paid features on your device.
We collect anonymous usage statistics about the subscription flow — for example, that the subscription screen was shown, that a purchase was started, and whether it completed, was cancelled or failed. These statistics are aggregated, are not linked to your identity, and never include payment information.
You can manage or cancel a subscription at any time in the Settings app of your device, under your Apple Account. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not retroactively refund the current period.
WHAT PERMISSIONS DO OUR APPS REQUEST?
Our apps ask only for what they need, and each app asks for a different set. You can refuse any of them, and you can change your mind later in the Settings app.
- Notifications — to alert you when something the app is watching for happens.
- Tracking (App Tracking Transparency) — only in apps that show ads, and only to make those ads more relevant.
- The file picker — in apps that let you import your own files. The app only receives the file you pick; it has no access to the rest of your files.
- Camera and photo library — some of our apps may request these where the feature requires it. They are only requested at the moment you use such a feature.
Battery Care Alarm requests notifications, tracking and the file picker. It does not request camera, photo library, location, contacts or microphone access.
Painter Values Check requests the camera, in order to measure the tonal values of what you point it at, and tracking, in order to show ads. Photos you import are chosen in the system photo picker, which hands the app only the picture you select and gives it no access to the rest of your library. The app asks for permission to add to your photo library only if you choose to save a result there from the share sheet. It does not request notifications, location, contacts or microphone access.
HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?
- Usage events (Firebase Analytics): user-level event data is retained for up to 14 months. Aggregated, non-identifying reports may be kept indefinitely.
- Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics): retained for 90 days.
- Advertising data (AdMob): retained by Google according to its own policies.
- Support emails: kept only as long as needed to resolve your query.
- Data on your device: kept until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes everything the app stored locally, including any sounds you imported and any images the app was working with.
IS YOUR INFORMATION TRANSFERRED INTERNATIONALLY?
Yes. Google and Apple process data on servers located in various countries, including the United States. Where information is transferred out of the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, those transfers are covered by the safeguards those providers put in place, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
WHAT ARE YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS?
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict its processing, and to withdraw consent at any time.
Because our apps have no accounts, we cannot identify you from our side — the data we see is aggregated and not linked to a person. In practice, the most effective controls are in your own hands:
- Withdraw advertising consent: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, and turn off the app’s switch. In the EEA and UK you can also reopen the consent options from within the app.
- Reset your advertising identifier: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Delete everything stored locally: uninstall the app.
- Opt out of usage analytics: stop using the app, or contact us at the address below and we will explain what is available for your case.
If you are in the EEA or the UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. If you are a California resident, you have the rights granted by the CCPA/CPRA, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them.

DO WE COLLECT INFORMATION FROM MINORS?
Our apps are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Where an app’s advertising is configured for a child-directed audience, personalized ads are disabled for it.
If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, write to pineappslab@gmail.com and we will delete it.
WHAT IS OUR STANCE ON THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES?
Our apps may contain links to websites we do not operate, and ads may take you to third-party sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, and this policy does not cover them. We recommend reading their privacy policies before providing them with any information.
WHAT IF YOU TAKE PART IN BETA TESTING?
If you choose to take part in our beta tests through Apple’s TestFlight, Apple shares with us the information described in its own terms — such as the email address you used to accept the invitation, your device model and OS version, and any feedback or crash reports you submit. We use it only to run the test, and it is deleted when the test ends. This applies only if you actively join a beta.
DO WE MAKE UPDATES TO THIS POLICY?
Yes. We will update this policy when our apps change or when the law requires it. The date at the top always shows the current version. Significant changes will be announced in the app or in the App Store release notes.
